Our Chat with DJ Sidharth:

Q: How’d you dive into DJing, and what’s changed since?

DJ Sidharth: It all started in the 90s. As far as I can remember, I’ve always had this undeniable urge to stay close to music since I was a child. Those were the days when computers were a luxury, and music access was limited but with FDI brought in by Dr. Manmohan Singh, a cultural sharing of sorts too was in place. I remember all my friends would hang out at cafes and canteens while I was always to be found at cassette shops and audio libraries.

That’s when I was moved by the likes of Michael Jackson & Madonna and experienced how live music helps transform us into the celestial beings that we are.

So in 1996, as a young teenager without any formal education, I started mixing things together on my own, spending hours at length to feel like a magician at the end of it. I eventually got to play at different birthday parties where people started remembering my name and then calling me to their events. I just saw it as an opportunity to play my music and work on my performances. I never saw it as a career, but performing live music had gotten me addicted already , and 28 years later, here we are. We now have access to the world on our phone and with the amount of music I want to make, I still feel like I’ve just begun.

Q: Any hurdles you had to jump on your DJ journey?

DJ Sidharth: ” Being a self taught DJ, there was of course the challenge of no access to knowledge, picture this, wouldn’t it be tough to learn mechanics without having read Newton’s laws of motions? .So I experimented and experimented, eventually making my own rules. But In hindsight I cherish that struggle the most as it helps me a lot in mentoring young DJs today.”

Q: Thoughts on the current DJing scene in India?

DJ Sidharth: “It’s a freakin’ blast! The crowd’s diverse, craving different flavors. DJs are all over the film industry as well. We’re mixing Indian swag with electronic beats, and it’s creating this whole new energy. It’s like telling the world that India has reached, you know?”

Q: Any tips for new DJs trying to make it big?

DJ Sidharth: “Be real, be passionate. It’s a hustle, but your uniqueness is your superpower. Embrace tech, connect with fellow DJs, and never stop pushing your limits.”

Q: So What’s next ? What’s the big dream for you?

DJ Sidharth: Ohh the dream is still the same, to stay close to music as long as possible, I sometimes picture myself as a 95-year-old man, still rocking live music from his wheelchair. That’s the dream.

Conclusion:

So, there you have it – DJ Sidharth’s journey is like a playlist of highs and drops in the DJing game. From those underground beats to the mainstream madness, DJing in India is a party that just keeps gettin’ better. Keep the bass thumping, the beats flowing, and let’s see where this wild musical ride takes us next!
